The leaves have fallen, the ground has dampened, and the pumpkin patches have shipped off their remaining pumpkins to...mulch? Pie factories? Wherever they go. Here we are with shorter days and a darkening winter. I don’t know about you, but right about now I start dreading holiday mishaps, family discord, new year's resolutions, my house flooding, random car accidents, my cat escaping, and other totally reasonable, completely rational, absolutely logical disasters.
That’s why I make myself a playlist to beat anxiety. This year, I thought I would share my top ten just in case I’m not alone in my panic (which my therapist claims I’m not). Run yourself a bubble bath, grab your essential oils, and settle in for some soothing music.
1. “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson
An oldie but a goodie—this one really takes me back to high school.
2. “Brave” by Sara Bareilles
Sara never fails to make me feel like I am so much more than my fears. I hope this one makes you feel brave enough to do the thing (you know, the one you’ve been meaning to do, but it makes you kind of sweaty, so you watch Netflix instead)
3. “Keep On” Sasha Sloan
Sasha gets it. She just gets it.
4. “Anxiety Lies” Samantha Margret
This is a brand new one. I hope it hits the spot.
5. “If the World Was Ending” JP Saxe (ft. Julia Michaels)
What’s better than a Julia Michaels song about anxiety? A Julia Michaels song with JP Saxe about the end of the world, you say? Sounds good (literally).
6. “Blooming Anyways” Deza
Deza is an up-and-comer singer, songwriter, producer, and general badass. Damn straight she’s blooming anyways and so are we!
7. “Must Have Been the Wind” Alec Benjamin
Alec Benjamin refers to himself as a “narrator” or “storyteller” and this song captures a profound moment of friendship and support.
8. “This Too Shall Pass” Sinclair
This is one of those songs that I knew I would listen to 40 times in a row as soon as I heard it.
9. “Back in My Body” Maggie Rogers
Maggie Rogers songs have some kind of magic that makes me feel like I too can go out into the desert and dance away my worries.
10. “Look at Her Now” Selena Gomez
Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mm
